Time for more changes?
Now that the rules are changing for helmet use, does anyone have opinions about thinking about changing the dress requirements for shows? Should we really be doing an athletic sport like dressage in 90 degree heat while wearing black wool coats and white pants? Does it seem a bit ridiculous or is it important not to change the ingrained, long-standing traditions of this great sport? Opinions out there?

I like the tradition and the show of respect. There are so many new materials for coats that I am amazed no company has ventured into this. Piping and tails could hold weights so coats hold shape and not fly around. If I had sewing machine......

I totally agree with you. And horses are dirty so wouldn't a color besides white show less dirt. Such as, last summer, I was giving a friend a leg up at a show and the sand in the arena was really wet so all the sand on her boot came off on my white breeches and I still had two more classes to do.

I like our traditional dress for shows. I love the formality of our dress, especially now in our modern lives when everyone is so casual just about everywhere. It show respect for our judges and enables our disciplines attire to stand out. However I do agree that if we could find better suited fabrics for hotter climates (I live in Florida) it would make showing in the warmer months more comfortable. Even when they waive the coat rule on very hot days, I still will put mine on after the warm up!
